Short Video Competition (SVC)

NCB short video competition is a contest open to secondary students in Mauritius from grade 11 and 12 to create a short video from any one of the topics below. The selected videos will be judged by an independent panel.

Competition Objectives

  • To inculcate the culture to research, understand, communicate and create information on digital skills from secondary level
  • To understand the importance of behaving responsibly
  • To show the importance of bridging the digital divide between youngsters and
  • To facilitate the transition from physical to digital safely and securely

Competition Rules

The rules of the short video competition are:

  1. Topics: The video should be based on any one of the particular topics below:

Topic 1: Cyber Bullying

Topic 2: Bridging Digital Divide between younger and older generations

Topic 3: Transitioning the Physical towards the Digital

The short video should highlight secondary schools girls’ ideas / campaigns towards promoting Digital Skills for Life on the topics mentioned above. The video can have graphs, animations, music and written text. Participants may use their own smart devices, cameras and software to record and mount their video.

  1. Video Length: The maximum length for videos must range from 4 to 5 minutes
  2. Submission Deadline: The submission deadline is 18th April 2023 before 13:00 hrs, and videos submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  3. Eligibility: The competition is open to secondary students from grade 11 & 12
  4. Team composition: The team should comprise of maximum 4 students per team and a maximum of 4 teams per school
  5. Entry: There can be a maximum of 4 video submissions per school
  6. Format: The video should be submitted in a specific format, which could be in mp4 or avi.
  7. Judging Criteria: The judging criteria will include factors such as creativity, originality, technical quality, adherence to the theme, public likes on NCB Facebook page and overall impact.

Theme, topics and information (40%)

The relevance of the chosen topic, the facts, and information provided in the video, reference and acknowledge all sources in comments.

Concept and originality (30%)

The originality of the video concept, ideas, content and story line

Creativity (20%)

The creativity of the video, composition, illustrations, text, graphs, animations, and music

Public likes on NCB FB Page (10%)

Impact created on audience

  1. Content: The video should be in Creole, English, French or a mixed of Creole, English and French and should not contain any offensive or inappropriate content, including profanity, violence, or nudity.
  2. Originality: The video should be original work of the participant, and should not be copied or plagiarized from any other source.
  3. Ownership: By submitting the video, the participant agrees to allow the organizer to use the video for promotional or other purposes.
  4. Disqualification: Any harmful content will be immediately disqualified and incomplete videos will not be retained.
  5. Title Frame: Submitted videos should begin with the following information: title of video; topic category; total running time; team name. The title frame does not count for the 4-5 minutes video.
  6. Jury for Competition: A team of jury will review evaluate and decide on the competition’s The Jury will comprise of representative from different sector.

Competition Stages

The Competition has two stages which are as follows:

Stage I

  • Consent Forms to be signed by the Parent / Responsible Party and to be submitted to respective schools by 29 March 2023
  • Registration Form to be submitted not later than 29 March 2023.
  • The registration form details comprises of: registration of girls from secondary schools; name of participants, grades & mobile numbers; name of teacher assisting the students & mobile number; team name & topic chosen; name of team leader.

Stage II

  • Submission of videos by either We transfer link: https://wetransfer.com/ or through email to girlsinict@ncb.mu not later than 18th April 2023
  • Rename the video as follows : school name_ team name_svc

Awards

Awards will be presented as follows:

  • A certificate of participation will be offered to all team members who have participated for the
    Short Video Competition.
  • A shield will be awarded to the participating Secondary schools.

  • The judges’ decision is final.Entries will be judged by topic, with winners in each of the three topics.
  • The only compensation for submitting a video is the opportunity to be awarded a prize if the entry wins. NCB will pay filmmakers no additional compensation nor be liable to the filmmaker under any circumstances. 

Ownership and Usage Rights

  • Students should keep at least one copy of their video. NCB Girls in ICT team is not responsible for any films that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly.
  • Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project remains with the entrant, with the following exceptions.
  • Entrants grant NCB Girls in ICT the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, and/or display the entrant’s project video without further compensation or notification to the entrant.
  • One student cannot form part in various teams for this competition.
  • NCB maintains the right to reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, display, or exhibit the project for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on their website, at conferences, or at any other venues.
  • By accepting the prizes, winners agree to hold NCB Girls in ICT team and all NCB employees harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of such prizes. Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused from participation in the contest or use/redemption of any
    prize.
  • Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.
